Friends. We have lost a classmate. Lisa Coats Weeden passed away December 26 of cancer. I am in shock as she commented on December 21 she was in the hospital for complications of diabetes and they found cancer throughout her body. She left the hospital that day to go home to hospice. I can’t wrap my head around that in a short 5 days later she has passed away. There was a post that the funeral was held December 30. I am trying to find out the details of everything. We are Pirates. Her family is in our prayers. 😒

    Lisa Ann Weeden
    (1961 – 2017)
Lisa Ann Coats Weeden passed away December 26, 2017 in her home at the age of 56. She was born February 21, 1961 to Herschell Allen and Charlotte Juree Scott Coats. She joined the school band and it changed her life. She began taking lessons from a professional about her sophomore year of high school. He wanted her to submit an audition tape to American Youth in Concert. There are only three chosen from each state and Lisa was one of the three representing Oklahoma. Lisa attended Central State University where she earned a master’s degree in Music Education. She performed three recitals in Tennessee and several in Oklahoma City. She also gave private lessons in flute, piano and piccolo. She played in church from her high school years throughout her life. Lisa married Michael Edward Weeden on August 4, 1984 in Oklahoma City. She leaves behind those to celebrate her life; husband Michael of the home, mother-in-law, Alma Weeden, brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Gayle Weeden of McAlester, OK, aunts, Marguerite Howell of Rush Springs, Mary Meadows and Ruth Peterson and husband, Harold of Mustang, OK, Dixie Melton and husband, Jack of Sulphur, Ok, Cousin(sister to Lisa) Marsha lackey of Ardmore, OK along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Yes, thank you Libbie for letting us know. I am so saddened – Pirate Marching band also lost another member right after Christmas 2017, John Massey (Putnam North) passed away as well. I pray for their souls, spouse/partner and their friends and Families. May the grace and love of our Lord, Jesus Christ reign with them eternally.

I did not hear of our Brother’s passing, Roberta! I wasn’t in band. I had missed a year of school while staying in Arkansas, so I couldn’t take any electives except Spanish. The “Holiday Season” was devastating to this old piano plucker as well.

I thought we had a third one but it may have been a church family member. Life is precious, and as I age I have learned to appreciate all those individuals who had a part of helping mold me into who I have become. Life is a blessing. Live it with great love.

In 2018, I find myself launching, or relaunching a music career. Though I want to do everything, like building a fort, you have to clear a few trees first. What I mean is, I did grow older, and many of my songs were inspired by dear and precious loved ones who are now seated with Christ. I have been stoic for many years with their passing. I can be so no more.
